Her Work
She recently concluded a 4-month project with Yuwa Nepal in Chitwan and is now focused on expanding such impactful programs across Nepal. With the removal of Health and Population from the school curriculum, there is a growing gap in young people’s understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). This gap presents an opportunity for young activists like her to address by providing sessions and seminars on essential topics such as menstruation, menstrual hygiene, consent, and appropriate versus inappropriate touch. She is currently assembling a team of youth to collaborate on similar projects throughout Nepal in coordination with Yuwa Nepal.
Impact
She conducted field visits to rural areas where Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) was severely lacking. The community’s ignorance about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and adherence to superstitions deeply affected her. As a team leader, she and her team developed and executed impactful plans, conducting sessions on menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and CSE across every ward of the municipality. They collaborated with child clubs and provided education on consent, self-advocacy, and addressing taboo subjects like rape and assault. Despite facing resistance and setbacks, including the community’s discomfort with discussing these topics, they created an interactive platform and roleplays to address stigmatized issues. They also worked on mobilizing child clubs for future programs and secured budget approval for continued sessions, leading to positive feedback and increased awareness within the community.
