Sanif Kandel is an 18-year-old Youth Activist from Rupandehi who is relentlessly working in the sector of Youth Leadership and Environment Sustainability. He has already been involved in different youth-led organizations to educate young people about Sustainable Development Goals and aware of the increased need for Climate Action and to work together with young minds in creating a space for youth leadership.
He is also serving as a Council Member at ‘Nepal Teen Leaders’ and as Executive Board Member of ‘Rescue Wing International’, volunteering as an Outreach Volunteer in ‘Global Changemakers’, Switzerland, and as an Ambassador in ‘Earth Strategy’. He is also into his dream project ‘Pocket, My First Dustbin’ with the aim to aware young people, waste management, clean environment and but help them to make a behavioral change to decrease the rampant plastic pollution.
His Journey
Growing up in the small town of Butwal, Nepal, he has always been the person who wanted to explore new opportunities. He has a great interest in networking with other like-minded young individuals who are working to create a positive impact in society.
Sanif started his journey from a very young age, his eagerness of doing something good for a society made him involved in different child clubs, Red Cross circles of his municipality where they conducted several awareness programs, cleanliness campaigns and encouraged teenagers to join the team to create a positive impact in our community.
Sanif has been working in the sector of youth empowerment since 2016, in this journey he has received many opportunities to interact with young people living in Nepal and young people from all over the globe to interact, facilitate communication and learn about youth leadership through different perspectives. His interest in the social sector led him to join ‘We’ for Change and currently working as an Executive member (2019-2021). ‘We’ for Change is a youth-led organization committed to aware, engage, and empower young people of Nepal through leadership and capacity building initiatives.
To seek the opportunity of interacting with like-minded youths, he is also working as a Council Member at ‘Nepal Teen Leaders’ which is a group of teenagers from different geographies of Nepal carrying diverse stories, working together to improve leadership skills and to aware youths by conducting youth empowering initiatives. Along with this, he is involved as the Executive Board Member of ‘Rescue Wing International’ which works to minimize violence against women, raise awareness about menstrual hygiene, and work on gender equality.
Apart from that he is passionately working to execute his own dream project ‘Pocket, My First Dustbin’ with the aim to aware young people, waste management, clean environment and but help them to make a behavioral change to decrease the rampant plastic pollution.
In these 4 years of journey in youth activism, he has met many inspiring youths who always motivated him to do more and work for the betterment of the community and country.
He always believed,’ Youths are not only the future of tomorrow but also the leaders of today’!
Impact Created
Through different programs; He has already interacted with youths from almost 20+ different countries and has been awared Nepalese youths and teenagers about SDGs and Climate Action at grassroot level and also mentoring them to conduct similar kinds of workshops. He has encouraged teenagers and supported them to shape a harmonious world for youths.
Sanif Kandel was selected among the 20 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers below the age of 20 in Nepal, for the year 2020. This annual list is the ultimate honor roll of young game changers reshaping Nepal for the better. The platform seeks to encourage the youths to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other youths in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.
