Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming with an unprecedented compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.3%. Driven by continuous research and innovation in major tech hubs like Silicon Valley and other tech centers, AI has transformed from limited technology to mainstream technology. Few years ago, many were unaware of AI’s capabilities but today we are witnessing remarkable developments of Artificial Intelligence, including Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), AI with human-like intelligence, the ability to learn from mistakes and self-educate. As AI  has become integral parts of human Daily chores several  questions arise regarding its sustainability and its effects on real human traits , including but not limited to Critical thinking, cognitive ability and ability to reinforce focus on different aspects of life where humans fall short.

Will AI erode human critical thinking?

Concerns about technology replacing human abilities are not new. In the 1980s, when personal computers were introduced for official purposes, many feared they would weaken & erode human memory and problem-solving skills. There were even protests, with some government employees demanding a review panel for the use of Computers in offices. However, history has shown a certain type of wave and pattern that people initially resist innovation, fearing it will make human skills weak and obsolete, & later embrace and integrate it into their livelihood. Just as computers eventually became essential tools for productivity, AI is likely to follow the same curve.

Rather than diminishing critical thinking, AI has the potential to enhance it by automating repetitive tasks and allowing humans to focus on creativity, analysis, and innovation. Instead of fearing AI, society should adapt & learn to evolve alongside it. The challenge lies not in resisting AI but in using it to strengthen our ability to analyze, think independently, and solve complex problems related to different disciplines. The real question is not whether AI will replace human thinking, but how we can leverage it to think better.

Rather than eroding critical thinking of humans, AI has potential to enhance it by delegating repetitive and monotonous tasks to AI , which contribute to reinforcing focus on creativity, analysis & innovation. Instead of Fearing by AI society should adopt, learn and evolve along with it for a better future ahead. Schools, Colleges, Workspaces should offer thorough approaches for optimal effectiveness of AI, without hampering their own ability to distinguish between right & wrong, and ability to think consciously and independently without external influence .

If we observe this Debate consciously and independently between AI and critical thinking , we can see that Critical thinking is what drives all innovation , inventions and development happening all across the globe. Educational institutions and organizations must emphasize critical thinking training alongside AI literacy to prepare individuals for an AI-integrated world.

Therefore, to leverage AI effectively, individuals must cultivate critical thinking skills to interpret AI-generated outputs, assess biases, and make informed decisions professionally, and personally.
