A 19-year-old, Laxman Poudel is a talented innovator from Butwal. He is currently studying in grade 12 at Kalika Manavgyan Higher Secondary School, Butwal. Recently, Laxman is working on projects named “Agrobot” (an automated agriculture robot) project. Likewise, he is also working on another project named “Anti-rape watch”.
Similarly, he is also working as a mentor for high school students at Students Research Council Nepal to guide young minds in research paper writing and developing problem-solving skills.
Apart from this; He has been working as a Technical Supervisor in the “ECSTATIC PARADOX” community to develop a simulation interface and provide a very powerful way of solving problems for high school students.
His Journey
When he heard about the launch of the humanoid robot “Sophia”; the news exhilarated him. Seeing his curiosity, his teacher suggested him; then he joined a workshop on robotics, which helped him to grab knowledge on the open-source electronic platform. Since then, his interest in Robotics and AI gradually increased. Besides this, he has an interest in web and app development and blogging. He has been engaging in robotics and problem solving for the past four years.
Currently, Laxman is working on projects named “Agrobot” which is working on plowing fields, watering the garden by determining the moisture level of soil, and cutting grass evenly. This project has enormous possibilities that he wants to implement and expand. The use of AI and machine learning can be implemented to determine the overall nutrient content, pH, physical and chemical structure of the soil as well as the calculation of correction factors through a single machine. The zero or minimum tillage used in conservation agriculture can be best implemented using AI.
Similarly, he has been researching how AI can be used to scan the disease and deficiency status of the plant by scanning the infected portion. This can be used in sustainable and conservation agriculture to increase productivity and effectiveness with small effort. He also wants to inspire the community by utilizing the concepts of AI and Robotics and educate young minds.
His other project named “Anti-rape watch”; is one of the varieties of devices to prevent human abuse and rape. A single button clicks forward the victim’s location and alerts the message to the registered number in the micro-controller. Recently, he is researching the feature that forwards the alert message to the nearest rescue station (the ready project is working to deliver the message to all registered stations without awareness of near or far.)
Laxman said, “ The purpose of my life is interrelated with education, and I will not be able to educate and aid others if I’m not educated. Hence, the cycle of learning shall never stop for me.”
Impact Created
His “Anti-rape watch” projects has created a positive impact on society and was also appreciated from the society. Through the Students Research Council Nepal, He has been mentoring and guiding young minds in solving real-world problems and developing research skills to enhance their intellectual ability; which has contributed to their personality and overall development.
Laxman Poudel was selected among the 20 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators, and game changers below the age of 20 in Nepal, for the year 2020. This annual list is the ultimate honor roll of young game changers reshaping Nepal for the better. The platform seeks to encourage the youths to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other youths in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.
