Aashish Panthi is a 19-year-old social activist and advocate for accessible education and technology for social good. As the Vice President of Cosog Nepal, he has touched the lives of over 3,000 students, championing the cause of digital literacy and empowering women through innovative solutions like the “Surakshya” app.

His Work

Aashish holds the position of Vice President at Cosog Nepal, a non-profit organization focused on advancing digital literacy and computer science education. He leads the “Code for Charity” initiative and is currently involved in developing a website for “Sustainable Actions Afrika,” a Cameroonian NGO. In collaboration with Duke University’s Technify, Aashish provides training support and organizes school outreach events in the Butwal, Biratnagar, and Chitwan regions of Nepal. One of his key initiatives is “Empactathon,” a hackathon designed to address pressing issues in education, climate, and health. He is also integrating environmental literacy into the curriculum and planning a four-month summer camp focused on environment and computer science education. Aashish’s dedication to expanding opportunities for youth extends to his work on a programming boot camp in Kapilvastu, in collaboration with local governments. Additionally, he is developing an app to improve ozone measurement and founded ‘Bidhwan,’ a platform to guide high school students in various competitions. Through his YouTube channel, Aashish shares coding tutorials and explores the potential of blockchain in education. He also works part-time as a developer for a Swiss company to support his family.

Impact

As Vice President of Cosog Nepal, Aashish has recruited over 50 volunteers, reached more than 25 schools, and impacted the lives of over 3,000 students across Nepal. He emphasizes gender inclusion in leadership roles and has led initiatives such as the IOE Entrance Book Donation and “Computer Science in +2” events. By sharing his personal journey of self-funding his education, Aashish inspires students to pursue their goals despite financial challenges. In his role as IT Head of his school’s ICT club, he developed the club’s website and created the “paperprep.me” platform to provide educational resources. His development of the “Surakshya” app has contributed to women’s safety, and his work on a Double Voting Preventing System highlights his commitment to using technology for social good. Aashish’s contributions to open-source projects during Hacktoberfest earned him recognition in tree planting initiatives. His research on plastic pollution and creation of awareness videos further demonstrate his dedication to environmental causes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aashish played a crucial role in helping schools transition to online learning.
