Aryan Basnet is an 18-year-old IT enthusiast from Surkhet who combines his passion for technology with a commitment to social work. His journey is marked by significant contributions to health and education in Nepal, particularly through his work with the Japan-Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Association and his current role at Mathematics Initiatives in Nepal (MIN). His Work

Aryan currently works at Mathematics Initiatives in Nepal (MIN), where he teaches math to students in government schools and serves as the IT head. His efforts are aimed at enhancing the quality of education in rural areas of Nepal. In addition to his work with MIN, Aryan is developing a learning platform app using Flutter, which seeks to improve accessibility to education in Nepal. Aryan’s passion for outdoor activities and leadership skills are evident in his role as a founding member and vice president of the Nepal Hiking Society. He leads hikes, engages participants, and promotes sustainable practices through this organization. Aryan also serves as an ambassador for Yale MUN Dubai, one of the world’s most prestigious Model United Nations conferences, where he represents and advocates for youth engagement in global issues.

Impact

Aryan’s work has had a profound impact on the health and well-being of tuberculosis (TB) patients in Nepal. Through his involvement with the Japan-Nepal Health and Tuberculosis Research Association, he has supported the transportation of over 500 sputum samples from DOTS centers to diagnostic centers, ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses. Aryan has also provided pre- and post-diagnosis counseling to 48 TB patients, offering crucial mental support during their treatment. His efforts in supplying medicine to TB patients have significantly contributed to improving their health outcomes. In the field of education, Aryan’s contributions through Mathematics Initiatives in Nepal (MIN) are helping to enhance learning opportunities for students in rural areas. His development of a learning platform app aims to bridge the gap in educational accessibility, ensuring that more students have the resources they need to succeed.
