Sanskriti Phuyal is a 17-year-old activist from Kathmandu. She was honored with the “EmpowHER Juniors’ Leadership Academy Award”, “HER TURN Leadership Award 2020”, and an award for “Outgoing Personality of Akshara School” in 2018. 

After stepping into the leadership field through EmpowHER Junior; a program of Ujyalo Foundation, which is an idea incubation leadership program for girls; Sanskriti began her journey in social activism.

The personal experience she had when starting her cricket journey inspired her to work on the project ” Sports for equality.” Since 2017, she has coordinated an interschool sports competition for girls. Sanskriti won a seed fund investment to conduct Sports for Equality at two schools with 50 girls. It is the journey of this young, courageous, and passionate cricketer to bring about gender equality in sports.

Currently, she is working on her initiative campaign “Sports for Equality” which aims to make girls aged 10-16 involve in sports and support them. It had conducted a sports competition among the 50 participant girls in Kathmandu. The objective of the project is to increase women’s participation in sports. Sports is a space where we learn unity, respect, and leadership. The project has been virtually empowering young girls to be self-dependent and confident through the means of online games, surveys, and sessions.

Through her initiation, she has taught young girls about the basic rules and playing skills. She has imparted to the community that a young girl can also lead and play and has been able to imprint that leadership has no age and no gender.

Her work was appreciated and has motivated teenagers to work for society. For her strong initiation and contributions; She was awarded as Glocal’s20under20, 2020. Recently, She has also been awarded Zonta “Indrakala Scholarship Award 2021 for her amazing work.

Sanskriti has always been enthusiastic and active in social activism in the hope of finding herself. Millions of teenagers have been inspired by her to take action for the betterment of society. Her dream is to make a significant positive impact on society or on the nation.
