Ms. KC was invited in the fourth episode of Teenspire to share her inspirational journey among teenagers. Below you can read her interesting live conversation that will motivate to dream big;
How you were inspired to work against child marriage?
I was born and raised in a small village called Rukum and the bitter fact is that all my friends were getting married at a very young age. They were forced because of bounded norms and rules that have been set by society. Seeing most of my friends getting married at a very early age instead of studying. I realized that; I need to take action to make changes and aware more people about the bad consequences of child marriage both on the child and the society itself.
Yes, there were educated people in the village, but they seemed to ignore the prevailing problem. And due to which; I was encouraged to work on abolishing kidnap marriage and child marriage.
You have lots of subscribers in your VLOGs and we want to know; How did you get into vlogging?
Well, I started blogging because I was having a monotonous lifestyle. Every day just going to school and revising the same things again at home made me passive and boring. So, I want to try something new which can be a way of finding a purpose in life. Since I love video making and thought it can be interesting to capture the moments.
As we know; people who are into Vlogging face both positive and negative comments. Most of them are actually struggling with it. So, How did you deal with criticisms?
Everything has its ups and downs. Criticism is the practice of judging the merits and faulting of something. I was being criticized by a number of people. Oftentimes, the criticisms were constructive ones that reinvigorated me to try new things and encouraged me to change the way. I turned some comments into learning things and some just let go time and focused on vlogging.
Can you share with us about your campaign in Rukum?
The campaign was supported by a lot of people, but there were also some against it. Some of them were actually needing or waiting for someone to make a change and to let their children study instead of getting married. So, those who were against it; they came forward and spoke out to abolish child marriage. However, there were also people sticking to culture. People were scared to speak out because they were married at the child’s age and didn’t want to face consequences such as having to spend several years in jail after abolishing child marriage.
Yes, there were some people who strongly supported my campaign.
Do youths now in the village support your campaign in Rukum?
The focal point of the campaign was awaring more young people because they tend to grab concepts faster, they were not ignorant and respected other’s views. These youths are even more inspired now to study, get a job and earn a living
What are your future plans regarding activism?
Since people are already aware of Kidnap and Child Marriage which is the base of the campaign, I intend to build a school after completing civil engineering. I believe that education is the most important aspect and will invest my time in building schools with the help of like-minded people. Further, Ms. Prashansha praised the teenagers who are doing impactful work in society and concluded with her message for fellow teenagers.
